Smallmouth Bass Fishing in Temagami - The smallmouth bass is said to be, pound for pound, one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish. The powerful runs, acrobatic leaps and "tail walking" make the smallmouth bass one of the most exciting fishes to pursue.

Smallmouth is one of the strongest fish for its weight. Many Temagami anglers who hook a 2 pounder will swear it’s twice that big until the fish is in the net. Smallmouth Bass are native to Angus Lake at Ridgewood Cottage Resort in Temagami. They are abundant in Temagami lakes and rivers, in northern Ontario.

Smallmouth bass look similar to their cousin, the largemouth Bass. Often they are found in the same waters. To tell the two apart, look at the closed mouth. If it extends only to the middle of the eye, it’s a smallmouth. If it goes way beyond the back of the eye, the fish is a largemouth.

Angus Lake is just under 4 miles long with a maximum depth of 32 feet. Smallmouth Bass are caught and released on a regular basis. Northern pike patrol the 32 foot deep waters while Walleyes populate the rocky points and bays. Other game species include perch and panfish. Spend your summer fishing trip at our Temagami fishing resort, fish all day pull onto an island or one of our back lakes and cook yourself a shore lunch you will never forget.
