Fishing - Fishing for Lake Trout in Temagami Area Lakes
Lake Trout Fishing in Temagami - Our
area is blessed with some excellent lake trout waters Jumping Caribou Lake,
Lake Temagami, Rabbit Lake and a few other lakes in the Marten River area where
the fish can be taken on deep-fished white jigs or frozen ciscos (available in any area bait shop). Lake trout are often
taken through the ice in January and February by jigging with artificial lures
or still fishing with live or dead minnows. They move into the shallows after
the spring ice breakup and are commonly caught by casting with artificial lures
or by still fishing with live or dead minnows or cut bait. Lake trout inhabit
deeper water during mid-summer and therefore are more difficult to catch. State
record: 43 pounds 8 ounces. Rainbow Trout: The fighting qualities of the
rainbow make it the favorite of most Minnesota trout anglers. they are found in
many small reclaimed lakes in the Ely area. Local resorts and outfitters have
information on what lakes hold these and other species of trout, how to get to
many of these lakes and the access available. In smaller lakes, they are caught
by still fishing with night crawlers or salmon eggs, or by casting or trolling
with various types of artificial lures including spinners, small spoons and
flies. State record: 17 pounds 6 ounces.
Lake Trout Fishing in Temagami - Lake
Trout are the biggest predators in
some of the bigger Temagami Lakes. Although the lake record is 43.5" (45 lbs),
there are sure to be much bigger fish in the depths of Temagami Lakes. It is
not uncommon to spot a few blimps on your depth finder when fishing for Lake
Trout in our Temagami lakes. Lake Trout also offer what is in our opinion the
best fight of any fish in Temagami area. We prefer jigging for Lake Trout,
using much lighter tackle (a medium action spinning rod with 10 pound test)
than the traditional heavy trolling equipment. This allows the average 6-7
pounder to make your wrists sore for days to come. Hearing that drag scream is
a great thrill! Their flesh is a lot oilier than Pike or Walleye, which makes
it unsuitable to fry at shorelunch. On the other hand, baked lake trout is a
delicacy. When wrapped in foil and filled with butter, garlic herb, onions,
lemons, cilantro, and other spices, lakers offer a special taste which cannot
be duplicated.
Gramps Place Temagami Fishing Bait and Tackle is just 3
minutes from our resort.
Lake Trout Ontario Record 63.12 lbs. .

Lake Temagami - Lake Tomiko - Marten River
- Red Cedar Lake Fishing in Ontario
Lake Temagami is only one of many lakes in the Temagami
& Marten River area. Cross Lake, Diamond Lake, Lady Evelyn, Cassels Lake,
Herridge Lake, Wickstead Lake, Angus Lake, Net Lake, Ingall Lake, Jumping
Caribou Lake, James Lake, and many more have so much fishing to offer.
Fishing in Lake Temagami: Most of the
surrounding lakes have a combination of lake trout, walleye (pickerel),
smallmouth bass, northern pike and whitefish. Splake, rainbow trout and
speckled trout will also be found in some lakes and rivers. While the lake
trout and walleye fisheries have attracted the attention of anglers throughout
the world, less attention has been paid to bass, pike and whitefish. These
species provide excellent fishing and are growing with popularity.
