Monster Lake Trout Caught
in Lake Temagami
Marcel Piquette of Cache Bay Ontario caught
this monster lake trout on Monday July 11/05, in Lake Temagami. Marcel was
using downriggers to troll a live minnow somewhere in the north end of the
lake. The fish was 43.5 inches long and had a girth of 27 inches. By the time
he was able to get it weighed it was 42 lbs.
Marcel plans to get the fish mounted.
Remember if you catch such a fish and release it your picture of the released
fish can be your entry into the Temagami Stewardship Council's Trophy Live
Release Contest. Record the weight, length and girth on your picture and you
could win a replica mount of the fish from Advanced Taxidermy in Toronto. Lake
trout over 10 lbs and walleye over 6 lbs are eligible.
There is still no confirmation of the
mythical 55 inch lake trout reported to have been caught earlier this summer on
Lake Temagami. If you have information on that fish contact the Stewardship at
gayesmith@onlink.net.

Lake Temagami - Lake Tomiko - Marten River
- Red Cedar Lake Fishing in Ontario
Lake Temagami is only one of many lakes in the Temagami
& Marten River area. Cross Lake, Diamond Lake, Lady Evelyn, Cassels Lake,
Herridge Lake, Wickstead Lake, Angus Lake, Net Lake, Ingall Lake, Jumping
Caribou Lake, James Lake, and many more have so much fishing to offer.
Fishing in Lake Temagami: Most of the
surrounding lakes have a combination of lake trout, walleye (pickerel),
smallmouth bass, northern pike and whitefish. Splake, rainbow trout and
speckled trout will also be found in some lakes and rivers. While the lake
trout and walleye fisheries have attracted the attention of anglers throughout
the world, less attention has been paid to bass, pike and whitefish. These
species provide excellent fishing and are growing with popularity.
